Welcome to Eco Arts by Sharon

I started doing art as part of my therapy work. It helped me access feelings and emotions I had a hard time processing. I started by drawing and coloring 1 mandala a day in 2019. Then I discovered a mixed media artist named Lori Marie Jenkins from Vallejo California who inspired me to have fun with different materials like newspaper, stablo pencils and mod podge! I am trying my hand with actually using natural earth paints. I still and using the last of my acrylic paints up,

I really started doing even more art because of the pandemic. I joined a Saturday morning croqui drawing group, CROQUI is a art moment that started in South Korea. We did an art activity or discussion then we shared our painting or drawing with the group, I actually learned about artists like Rene Magritte and Piet Mondrian who were pleasant discoveries for me, I started a large wire bound journal and filled it with lots of different ideas and creations, I glued pages together and cut out shapes, I had fun trying to find my own style and artistic vocabulary. I also looked around and found lots of plastic outdoor signs laying about so I took them as my canvas. I prepare my plastic canvas with layers of mod podge and cut up junk mail, These layers are my under painting or underpants. This layer helps me loosen up and have fun, it is something hard to figure out where I am going with a piece, But I persist. I feel renewed by reusing something that will most likely be tossed out.

This blog will also be about figuring out what we can do about the overabundance of plastic in the environment and in our own bodies, I will be updating twice a week on new pieces, environmental news or other musings, I hope you will join me on my artistic journey,

Peace

Sharon
